Our Traditional Boxing Day row - 26th December 2011
Thankfully this year it was the turn of mild weather, after last year's hard winter!
Eight of us set off from UTRC at 11.30am, for the row up to the River & Rowing Museum. Half an hour earlier and we would have been stopped by the sight of 50 fearless swimmers making the crossing from the Red Lion Hotel to Leander!
Once above the bridge we were aware of a few rowers - the tail-end of the Henley RC Boxing Day races - and saw plenty of walkers on the tow path. Henley was certainly working off the indulgences of Christmas Day!
When we reached the museum pontoon we were joined by family and friends for our traditional party of mulled wine and mince pies on the river bank - great fun!
By contrast the return trip was peaceful, with just the company of the local wildlife. |
